Britons Still Visiting Florida Despite Oil Leak

Britons "still visiting Florida despite oil leak" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Britons are reportedly still visiting Florida on holiday despite the effects of the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The leak began in April following an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and is yet to be fully contained.

While there have been fears that the disaster could prevent people from visiting Florida and other destinations on the Gulf coast, Kate Burgess of the Florida Keys Tourism Council told Travel Daily that Brits are still holidaying in the region.

She pointed out that many people are willing to visit certain areas that have not been affected by the spill.

"There have been very few cancellations from the UK market," Ms Burgess said.

"All anecdotal evidence from UK agents and operators shows that the Brits market is not affected as the main focus is on Orlando and Miami, and people know that Miami is not affected."

Visit Florida and the Florida Keys Tourism Council recently launched an advertising campaign to keep people informed regarding the leak.
