London City Airport Reaches Milestone In Terminal Development
London City airport reaches milestone in terminal development by Cheap Flights Booker UK
London City airport yesterday (29 July) hosted a "topping-out" ceremony to mark the installation of the new first floor in the terminal building.
Airport chief executive Richard Gooding OBE was joined by Kevin Murphy of ExCeL London for the event, which was described as "an important milestone" in the ongoing £7m terminal development.
The renovation works commenced in the spring with the installation of piles, steel columns and beams ahead of the fitting of the new floor.
A new staircase and six additional security search lanes will be put in place in the second and third phases of the project, which is scheduled for completion in early 2011.
Mr Gooding said: "The first floor fitting marks an important milestone in the terminal renovation works.
"Increasing the handling capacity of the security search facility will maintain and uphold the airport"s high level of customer service and we look forward to completion."
British Airways announced this week that it would be expanding its presence at London City airport with the launch of flights to Copenhagen in September.
