Abta: 1.8m Brits To Go Overseas For Bank Holiday Weekend

Abta: 1.8m Brits to go overseas for bank holiday weekend by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Around 1.8m Brits will take advantage of the August bank holiday weekend by embarking on an overseas break, according to Abta - The Travel Association.

More than 420,000 travellers are expected to catch flights from Heathrow between 27 and 30 August, while 250,000 will be leaving from Gatwick and 136,000 from Stansted.

Regional airports will also be busy, with Manchester expected to handle around 145,000 departing passengers.

Beach holidays are proving a popular option, with mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, Turkey and Egypt among the top destinations, while Orlando and New York are the top hotspots for people heading to the US.

In the European city break market, Paris, Amsterdam, Venice and Dublin look set to welcome a high number of British visitors this weekend.

Abta chairman John McEwan said: "This weekend is the last great getaway of the summer and I am delighted to see that so many customers are taking the opportunity to head off on holiday overseas as well as the large number who will be sampling the delights of the sea and countryside as well as our beautiful cities here at home."
