Airport Strike Called Off
Airport strike called off by Cheap Flights Booker UK
People planning to catch flights from one of BAA"s six UK airports over the August bank holiday weekend should be able to travel as normal after the operator reached an agreement with the Unite trade union in a dispute over pay.
The union announced last week that its members working at Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports had voted in favour of industrial action after receiving an unsatisfactory pay offer.
However, talks between Unite and BAA have led to a deal which will be recommended to the 6,000 workers.
Brendan Gold, the trade union"s national secretary, said: "We"ve reached a settlement which we are prepared to recommend to our members.
"We will be undertaking a ballot of our members, and that will commence over the next couple of days, and last for probably about three weeks."
BAA released a statement saying it was pleased that Unite had agreed to the pay offer, which it said was "fair to staff but which also reflects the difficult economic climate".
The company added: "Our priority is to work with our people to improve the service we provide passengers and airlines and we look forward to doing that in the busy weeks ahead."
