Asia Pacific Leading Global Hotel Revival
Asia Pacific "leading global hotel revival" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Asia Pacific region played a strong part in the revival of the global hotel industry in the first five months of the year, according to accounting and consulting firm Deloitte.
Citing figures from STR Global, the company revealed that Singapore and New Zealand had hotel occupancy figures of 82.3% and 73.2% respectively in the year to May 2010, followed by Australia with 73%.
Egypt was the only other major tourist country to report occupancy levels above 70%, while the UK recorded a rate of 66.9%.
The study revealed that Australia performed particularly well in the first five months of the year, showing a strong recovery from the global financial crisis (GFC) with revenue per available room rising by 34.8%.
Ian Breedon, real estate lead partner at Deloitte, said: "Australian hotels weathered the GFC well and their rebound was among the most impressive in the world. Sydney, in particular, had an excellent 12 months and led most other major tourist destinations in occupancy levels and increase in revenue per available room."
He went on to say that the revival is set to continue over the next year as the global economy picks up and business travellers begin to take more trips.
