British Airways marked the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain over the weekend by carrying 14 World War II veterans on a special flight.
An Airbus A320 took the former pilots and members of the Battle of Britain Historical Society to the locations of some of the aerial conflicts that took place in 1940.
The plane was flown by ex-RAF fighter pilot Paul Shenton and accompanied for part of its journey by two surviving aircraft from the war - a Spitfire and a Hurricane.
Bill Bond MBE, founder of the Battle of Britain Historical Society, said the presence of the historic fighter planes was particularly significant for the veterans.
Speaking before the event on Saturday (28 August), Mr Bond said: "They are magnificent aircraft and for most of the veterans onboard, this would be the first time they have been airborne together with either fighter since the Second World War.
"We must never forget their selflessness and valour in what was a fundamental turning point in the war."
Also onboard the Airbus A320 was defence minister Dr Liam Fox, who said it was "almost impossible" to measure the country"s debt to the pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain.
