Brits Urged To Apply For US Travel Authorisation Soon
Brits urged to apply for US travel authorisation soon by Cheap Flights Booker UK
UK citizens planning to visit the US in the next two years have been encouraged to make their Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (Esta) applications soon.
People who apply online for their Esta before 8 September will not have to pay the $14 (£9) charge that will come into effect on that date.
The system applies to all passengers travelling to the US from countries that are included in the Visa Waiver Program, which includes the UK and most other EU nations.
A fee is being implemented for Esta applications in order to fund promotion of the country"s tourism industry.
Luke Pollard, head of public affairs for Abta, said: "We fully support the US government"s wish to encourage people to visit their country. However, charging visitors $14 each to fund this drive seems a rather odd way of doing so.
"Customers should go online to obtain their Esta before 8 September to avoid the charge. An Esta is valid for two years, so if you intend to visit the USA in the next 24 months go online now."
Abta announced today (26 August) that some 1.8m Britons are expected to head overseas during the bank holiday weekend.
