George The Donkey Greeting Bristol Airport Passengers
George the donkey greeting Bristol airport passengers by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Bristol airport announced yesterday (12 August) that it had added a new member to its team - George the donkey.
George is one of 40 decorated donkeys sponsored by the airport as part of an initiative launched by Weston-super-Mare"s Grand Pier, which is designed to celebrate the town"s tourism heritage.
Made of fibreglass and resin, the unusual animal was designed by local artist Nina Kleinzeller in a 1930s style in recognition of the airport"s 80th birthday this year.
Set to greet passengers in the terminal"s main check-in area throughout the summer, George has been proving particularly popular with families.
Jacqui Mills of Bristol airport said: "It"s an unusual way to welcome passengers, but it seems appropriate in a year when we celebrate our 80th birthday and 200 years of tourism in Weston.
"We have called him George after Prince George, who opened Bristol airport at its original Whitchurch site in 1930."
Bristol is currently undergoing a number of developments and recently submitted a proposal to the local council to build a new hotel on-site.
