New UK Passport Offers More Security
New UK passport offers more security by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Home Office today (25 August) unveiled the new UK passport, which has been redesigned to provide more security for travellers.
Launched by Identity and Passport Service chief executive Sarah Rapson, the new ten-year document will be issued from October.
Among its security features are depictions of well-known UK sites such as the White Cliffs of Dover, Ben Nevis and the Giant"s Causeway, which have been recreated using special printing techniques.
Other changes designed to protect UK citizens from identity theft and guarantee quicker travel across borders include a new location for the chip that carries the holder"s details and a secondary image of the individual printed on the observations page.
Ms Rapson said: "Through its combination of physical and electronic security features, the UK passport remains one of the most secure and trusted documents in the world, meeting rigorous international standards.
"The new design is part of our strategy to stay ahead of criminals who look to fraudulently alter or copy passports."
Travellers are expected to benefit from quicker passage through border controls following the movement of the personal details section to the second page of the passport, in common with other documents in Europe and around the world.
