Run by local chef Bertilio Gomes, the festival will showcase the diverse range of seafood dishes available across the region.

Mr Gomes said: "The Allgarve Gourmet festival creates an innovative alternative to the more traditional shellfish and sardine festival."

Travellers will also be heading to the Portuguese island of Madeira between 2 and 5 September for a wine festival taking place in Funchal.

There will be a number of exhibitions about local wine, as well as live music, cultural events and the opportunity to take part in the grape harvest during the day.

Flights to Funchal are available with TAP Portugal and easyJet, while carriers such as Monarch and British Airways offer services to Faro in the Algarve.
