Singapore Airlines launches paperless cabin trial by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Singapore Airlines has launched a project to remove the need for paper in its cabin.
The carrier is set to use its KrisWorld entertainment system to provide electronic versions of its three inflight magazines - SilverKris, KrisShop and KrisWorld.
Menu cards and other international and local magazines could also be converted into an electronic format to cut the amount of paper carried onboard, which will reduce aircraft weight and save fuel.
Singapore Airlines has launched the trial in collaboration with SmarttPapers Aviation Ltd, a company that provides the technology required to digitally compress magazines and newspapers for integration into the inflight entertainment system.
Yap Kim Wah, Singapore Airlines" senior vice president of products and services, said: "This opens up a wide range of opportunities to benefit our customers and at the same time results in less weight in the aircraft.
"E-books and e-magazines have gained popularity and we want to offer these to our customers."
The trial will begin with the feature being added to two Boeing 777-300 long-range aircraft, followed by two Airbus A380s.
