Southampton airport "thrilled" with award nomination by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Southampton airport has said that it is "thrilled" to be among the nominees for this year"s British Travel Awards.

The base has been shortlisted in the category covering the best regional airports in the UK.

Airport operator BAA encouraged people who have caught flights from Southampton to show their support for the hub by visiting the British Travel Awards website to submit their vote before 30 September.

The results will be announced at a ceremony in London on 4 November.

Jan Halliday, director of marketing and communications for the airport, said: "2010 has been a difficult year for the aviation industry, but Southampton airport is beating the national trend.

"2010 is also the airport"s 100th birthday, and so winning this award would really be the icing on the cake during our centenary year. We are urging all of our supporters to log on and cast their vote for us."

Southampton hosts flights from carriers such as Flybe, which offers services from England"s south coast to Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin and many other destinations.
