Travellers Wasting Millions On Credit Card Fees
Travellers "wasting millions on credit card fees" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
British consumers travelling overseas are set to be hit by £62m in charges for using their credit cards during the remainder of the year, according to research by the Post Office.
The organisation carried out a survey which found that consumers will spend £3bn on credit cards abroad over the next five months.
Despite the availability of products that do not charge for overseas use, 55% of respondents said they would have to pay to make card payments during their travels this year.
An additional 13% said they did not know if their credit card carried a fee for transactions abroad.
Az Alibhai, head of cards at the Post Office, said: "This summer millions of travellers will waste money on unnecessary fees and worryingly many are not even aware of how much this will increase their holiday spending.
"Holidays should be a time to relax and enjoy yourself, but these extra pounds paid every time you make a purchase could result in extra stress when the credit card bill arrives."
Credit cards account for a third of all overseas spending by Brits, meaning they are still the most popular method of making purchases and transactions abroad, according to the Payments Council.
