Abta Underlines Road Safety Message
Abta underlines road safety message by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Abta has reiterated its message regarding the importance of road safety for Britons planning to hire a car and go for a drive during an overseas break.
The travel association advised people to take "sensible precautions" and ensure they are aware of local driving laws before heading abroad.
A recent report from the Make Roads Safe campaign and the FIA Foundation revealed that 25,000 tourists are killed on roads around the world every year.
While the figure for UK holidaymakers is much lower, Abta stressed that it remains imperative for motorists to be prepared and careful when they are driving in foreign countries.
"Although statistically the chances of being caught in a road accident whilst on holiday abroad are small, accidents can and do occur," said Nikki White, head of destinations and sustainability at Abta.
"Many Abta tour operators work closely with local companies providing transfers and car hire arrangements to operate appropriate safety standards and also with the Foreign Office to raise customer awareness on how to minimise potential risks as part of their "Know Before You Go" campaign."
The Know Before You Go initiative was launched to provide detailed advice for Britons planning to drive on foreign roads.
