The company, which provides voice and messaging services over broadband networks, said the tool will prove useful for holidaymakers who want to stay in touch with people at home.

Free to download and use, the application is available for the iPhone, iPod touch and Android devices and works in most countries.

It allows users to call people in their list of Facebook friends simply by clicking on their picture.

Vonage launched the app to extend the range of communications services available on internet-enabled devices around the world.

Marc Lefar, the company"s chief executive officer, said: "This is just the start. In the future we will expand on this service to include a wide range of integrated voice and messaging services that change the way people communicate."

The app is available from iTunes, Android Market and Vonage"s Facebook page.
