Southern Sri Lanka Recommended For Wildlife Lovers
Southern Sri Lanka recommended for wildlife lovers by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The south coast of Sri Lanka offers some unforgettable experiences for animal lovers, particularly during the winter, a tourism spokesperson has revealed.
Sanjika Perera, UK and Ireland director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, said that the winter season is the best time to visit beaches in the south.
He added: "Also during this period in the Minneriya area we are seeing the gathering [of] the largest congregation of Asian elephants in the world.
"You are able to see a good 100 to 200 elephants in this open field. They all come to feed in this grassland and you can go, more or less, very close to them and take photographs."
Visitors can also embark on boat trips off the coast of Mirissa to see whales and dolphins.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau released statistics this month showing that more than 12,400 UK holidaymakers visited the country in August, representing a year-on-year increase of 43 per cent.
Mr Perera encouraged travellers to make their bookings early to guarantee low prices.
