EasyJet "making it easier to visit Portugal" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

EasyJet has announced a plan to make it easier to visit Portugal with the opening of a new permanent aircraft base in Lisbon.

In the next step of its expansion across Europe, the carrier plans to increase passenger numbers from 1.5m to 2.5m per year and add up to ten new destinations from the Portuguese capital.

The new base will be easyJet"s 20th in Europe and is due to open during the 2011 winter season with a capacity of up to seven Airbus A319 aircraft.

Carolyn McCall, the airline"s chief executive officer, said the move would make it easier for travellers to visit Portugal.

She added: "As one of Europe"s most attractive capital cities, Lisbon already attracts 3.6m tourists and 4m business travellers a year.

"The increase in easyJet aircraft based in Lisbon will stimulate demand and contribute to visitor numbers by over 1m passengers a year, with clear benefits to the Portuguese economy."

EasyJet"s existing range of services to Portugal includes flights to Faro, Porto and Madeira from the UK.
