Eurostar To Spend Â700m In Expanding Train Fleet
Eurostar to spend Â700m in expanding train fleet by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Eurostar has unveiled plans to spend £700m to expand its fleet of trains in an effort to reduce travel times.
The rail company said it will purchase ten new German-built e320 trains that can reach speeds of 200mph and carry up to 900 passengers.
The new trains, built by Siemens, are expected cut London to Paris journey times to just over two hours and will be able to run across the European high-speed network.
Transport secretary Philip Hammond welcomed the announcement from Eurostar and said studies are currently taking place to see if a new planned high-speed rail network can be joined to the London to Folkestone Channel Tunnel link.
"The transformation of Eurostar into a single entity has created a company well placed to attract the resources and investment needed to deliver a world class service," he said.
"That"s good news for passengers but also for the UK taxpayer as well, who owns 40 per cent of Eurostar International."
