A trip to Nantes could offer some unexpected entertainment for science fiction fans this autumn.
The city in north-west France will once again host the Utopiales International Festival of Science Fiction at the Cite international des Congres venue for five days from 14 November.
Utopiales was founded in 2000 with the aim of celebrating various aspects of sci-fi, from its visual characteristics and stories to the important part that it plays in popular culture.
A different theme is explored at the festival every year, with the 2010 programme being arranged around the topic of "frontiers".
One of the highlights of the event this year will be a series of exhibitions featuring works including Keith Thompson"s illustrations for the Scott Westerfeld novel Leviathan.
Visitors will also be able to see paintings, drawings and various other pieces in the displays or browse through a fair selling books, graphic novels, comics and an array of sci-fi memorabilia.
