Financial Squeeze Will Not Stop Brits Taking Holidays
Financial squeeze "will not stop Brits taking holidays" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The anticipated fall in consumer confidence caused by spending cuts announced by the government this week will not stop Britons from putting money aside for holidays, according to Abta - The Travel Association.
Following chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne"s spending review announcement yesterday (20 October), Luke Pollard, the association"s head of public affairs, admitted that the cuts will have a knock-on effect on consumers" plans for holidays.
However, he stressed that the message from the Abta Travel Convention in Malta is that the industry should not be too pessimistic.
"Yesterday we heard from Douglas McWilliams, founder and chief executive of the Centre for Economic and Business Research at our Travel Convention in Malta," Mr Pollard commented.
"He predicted that while the economy in the UK means British disposable incomes will be suppressed in the immediate future, current austerity will force consumers to spend smart in order that they can continue to have money for "new" essential items such as travel."
He went on to state that value for money will be "key" for holidays over the coming year.
