Gatwick Gets Green Light For A380
Gatwick gets green light for A380 by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers will soon be able to catch Airbus A380 flights from London Gatwick after the airport received planning permission to host the airliner.
Crawley Borough Council gave the green light to the base following £43m of investment in six new aircraft stands, two of which are large enough to accommodate the A380.
Gatwick said that it can now "ramp up" its discussions with airlines that currently operate the double-decker jumbo jet.
Stewart Wingate, the airport"s chief executive officer, said Gatwick intends to be at the centre of an "exciting new era" of long-haul travel symbolised by the A380.
He added: "We are pouring £1bn into Gatwick to improve the infrastructure, modernise the airport facilities, improve customer service, bolster the rail links and drive competitive rates for airlines to encourage more passengers and airlines to the airport.
"If we can bring the A380 and other large aircraft to Gatwick, passengers will have even more reason to choose to fly to and from our airport and help us on our journey to becoming the London airport of choice."
Heathrow is currently the only London base to offer A380 services, with Emirates and Singapore Airlines using the plane to operate flights to Dubai and Singapore respectively.
