Russia Aiming To Become Major Global Tourism Destination
Russia aiming to become major global tourism destination by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Russian government is to launch a new tourism drive aimed at increasing the number of people booking flights to Moscow, St Petersburg and other top cities and destinations within the country.
Under the newly-unveiled plans, some $11.7 bn is to be spent improving the country"s tourism infrastructure, including setting up special trains and raising the standards of hotels, as well as on launching a major global advertising campaign highlighting the numerous attractions of Russia.
For example, it is hoped that by focusing attention on attractions such as Red Square and the Kremlin in Moscow, rather than on expensive hotels and complex visa issues, Russia could soon be welcoming 40m foreign tourists a year, compared to the current rate of just 2.3m.
Outlining the plans, Russia"s deputy minister for tourism and sport, Nadezhda Nazina, told the AFP: "We are going to do everything possible so that a foreign visitor feels comfortable in Russia."
It is also anticipated that attention will be paid to the fact that many people arriving on flights to Moscow have trouble reading signs that are only written in Russian.
Other attractions within Russia include the Trans-Siberian railway, which links the east and the west extremes of the country.
