Air Berlin Chooses Gatwick As London Base
Air Berlin chooses Gatwick as London base by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Air Berlin has chosen Gatwick as its new base in London and will provide two new services to Germany from the airport.
Gatwick will become the only London airport to host direct flights to Nuremberg in February 2011, at which time Air Berlin will also introduce a route to Hanover.
Fast transport links to the centre of the capital helped seal the deal, with Gatwick Express providing regular non-stop services to Victoria.
Titus Johnson, Air Berlin"s country manager for the UK and Ireland, pointed out that the airport also has a high penetration in London and the south-east, meaning the airline"s services will be available to a large customer base.
Stewart Wingate, Gatwick"s chief executive, said the base is "absolutely delighted" to welcome Air Berlin.
He added: "We are transforming Gatwick with a £1bn investment programme that will modernise the facilities, improve customer service and bolster the public transport links into London, to make Gatwick London"s airport of choice.
"Today"s news demonstrates we are making headway in achieving that vision."
