Brits contribute to "bumper year" for Serbian tourism by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The National Tourism Organisation of Serbia has revealed that 2010 has been a "bumper year" for the country so far, with UK visitors playing a big part in the success.
In the first nine months of 2010, the number of Brits arriving in Serbia was up 16% on the previous year, compared to an increase of 1% overall from other international markets.
Major festivals are also contributing to the country"s growth in visitor numbers, with EXIT alone attracting more than 5,000 music fans from the UK and events such as Guca, Nisville and Belgrade Beerfest becoming more popular.
The national tourist board revealed that travellers have also shown an interest in holidays based around activities such as walking and cycling.
Access to Serbia has been boosted by airlines such as national carrier JAT Airways, which recently increased the frequency of its flights from London Heathrow to Serbia from seven to ten per week.
Gordana Plamenac, director of the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia, said: "The UK has performed strongly for 2010, which demonstrates our core tourism products being attractive to the British market coupled with our excellent value for money being outside the eurozone.
"We expect the trend to continue next year due to increased awareness of the destination, new product and accessibility to Serbia being further increased hopefully by the launch of another low-cost carrier."
