India aiming for "world-class" infrastructure by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers planning a trip to India could see the benefit of recent improvements to the country"s infrastructure and further enhancements that are planned in the future.
Speaking at a press conference for promotional agency Incredible India, Rajen Habib Khwaja, the country"s tourism secretary, pointed out that a new airport terminal is now up and running in New Delhi.
Travellers also have the option of catching flights to new bases in the cities of Hyderabad and Bangalore.
"The airport terminals at other important gateways are also being upgraded," Mr Khwaja added.
"We have expanded the metro network and increased room inventory in Delhi. Our endeavour remains to upgrade the infrastructure and other facilities to the world-class level."
The tourism secretary highlighted the potential for expansion in the Indian tourism industry, which is expected to exceed the wider economy"s predicted growth rate of 8% per year.
According to recent figures from the UN World Tourism Organisation, Asia and the Pacific was one of the strongest global regions in the first eight months of 2010, with year-on-year growth of 14% in international arrivals.
