International Tourism Recovering From Economic Crisis

International tourism "recovering from economic crisis" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

International tourism is continuing its recovery from the global economic crisis, according to new figures.

The UN World Tourism Organisation released a report showing that worldwide arrivals between January and August 2010 totalled 642m, an increase of 7% from the same period in 2009.

This figure also exceeds the record achieved in the first eight months of 2008, before the worst of the economic downturn.

Asia and the Pacific have shown "resilience and a strong capacity for recovery", the UNWTO revealed, while the Middle East and Africa have also experienced healthy growth this year.

Taleb Rifai, the organisation"s secretary general, said: "These results reinforce the message that we have been underscoring since the outbreak of the global crisis at the end of 2008 - that tourism is one of the most dynamic economic sectors and a key driver in creating much-needed growth and employment.

"Tourism has been seriously impacted by the global crisis, but less than other export sectors, and is currently rebounding faster and more robustly."

Mr Rifai urged governments around the world to place tourism higher on their agendas.
