Winter sports enthusiasts planning a trip to Hunter Mountain in the US during the 2010-11 skiing season will be able to try out the Kaatskill Flyer, the state of New York"s first six-passenger detachable chairlift.
Described by the state"s tourism agency as "one of the ski industry"s largest capital improvements this year", the lift was designed by manufacturer Leitner-Poma and installed during the summer.
It is 5,400 feet long, has a vertical rise of 1,477 feet and comprises 82 chairs, which can travel at speeds of up to 1,000 feet per minute.
The lift can carry 2,600 people to the summit of Hunter Mountain every hour, an increase of 200 over the previous machine.
Skiers and snowboarders will also benefit from a shorter journey time of five and a half minutes, compared to the previous lift"s six and a half minutes.
Brian Czarnecki, the resort"s director of marketing and sales, said: "This new lift will change everything for us, from wait times to the overall guest experience at Hunter.
"Our guests asked us for a new lift, and we"ve delivered: the new Kaatskill Flyer is one of the many brand new things we"re unveiling for the coming season."
