Quarter of Brits "plan holidays towards end of the year" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Rather than sticking to the usual summer holiday tradition, one in four Britons now plan their breaks during the low-season period between October and December, according to recent research.

A survey by Halifax found that cost is one of the big factors in this trend, with a quarter of people who take holidays late in the year saying they do so to avoid peak prices.

For 23% of respondents, getting some winter sun is the main reason for going away during the low season, while 14% said they can travel further for their money in these months.

Halifax found that almost 3m people will be planning trips to long-haul destinations outside Europe and Russia, while some 2.5m will be heading to southern Europe and the Mediterranean for some winter sun.

Ken Stannard, the bank"s director of credit cards, said: "Low-season holidays hold a great deal of appeal for those that are looking to get away but still make the most of their money."

More than 11m people are expected to embark on a holiday in the last few months of the year, collectively spending over £9bn on travel and £500m during their trip.
