Skiers Taking Insurance Risks

Skiers "taking insurance risks" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Britons planning to catch flights to France, Italy, Canada, Switzerland and other popular destinations for a skiing holiday this winter have been urged to arrange suitable travel insurance before setting off.

According to a survey by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), many people are taking risks by travelling without insurance, with almost a third (31%) of Britons admitting to taking a winter sports break without cover.

The research also revealed a widespread lack of understanding with regards to insurance, with 61% of respondents unaware that many policies do not cover accidents that occur off-piste.

Just over half (53%) of the people surveyed understood what cover the European Health Insurance Card provides, with many Britons wrongly believing that the document guarantees services such as medical repatriation and helicopter ambulances.

Phil Lord from the FCO"s Know Before You Go campaign said: "We strongly advise those hitting the slopes this winter to take out comprehensive travel insurance.

"Many skiers will be unaware that their insurance may not cover them if they"ve been drinking alcohol or for skiing off-piste. Medical treatment and repatriation can leave you thousands of pounds out of pocket - it"s just not worth the risk."
