Commenting on destinations where travellers can enjoy a spring getaway, Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall said: "It is a lovely time to be going to Europe, first and foremost - it will be warm but not too warm, it will be spring everywhere and you will have early summer temperatures."

He also recommended Marrakech, Istanbul and Cairo before they get too hot, while people planning to spend some time on the beach were encouraged to head further afield to guarantee warmer temperatures.

"Maybe you can head to Goa, Cuba or Dubai or around the Caribbean - it is an absolutely lovely time to be in the Caribbean," Mr Hall said.
