Tourism To Help Development In South Eastern Europe

Tourism "to help development in south-eastern Europe" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has highlighted the important part that travellers can play in the ongoing development of south-eastern Europe.

One of the main messages coming out of a recent seminar in Tirana, Albania, was that tourism can support countries in the region by boosting economic growth and creating new jobs.

It can also reduce inequalities between regions and help areas that are more remote and have limited options for economic development.

Sali Berisha, the prime minister of Albania, said that the country has the potential to build "a new tourism sector for the 21st century" and set an example for other nations.

UNWTO secretary-general Taleb Rifai said: "In the face of a prolonged period of high unemployment, tourism can create jobs, particularly in remote regions, and is by far one of the best development opportunities for those regions that are emerging, as is the case of eastern Europe.

"This region can benefit immensely from further regional cooperation."

Lonely Planet recently recommended Albania as its top country to visit in 2011, while Bulgaria also featured in the top ten.
