Brits Willing To Go Long Haul To Get Value For Money
Brits "willing to go long-haul to get value for money" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The recent financial crisis and the resulting fluctuations in exchange rates prompted many British travellers to opt for long-haul destinations to get better value for money, according to research.
Findings from the American Express Currency index, which tracks the top 25 currencies for UK consumers every quarter, indicates that countries such as Mauritius, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica have all been attracting more interest recently.
The company pointed out that the pound"s loss of value against the euro and the US dollar during the economic downturn led to many travellers looking elsewhere for their holiday destinations.
"When looking at the prices of holidays, Britons began to realise it would be more cost effective to look further afield and book holidays to destinations that previously may have been overlooked," said Terry Perrin, director of American Express Global Foreign Exchange Services.
The research also highlighted the ongoing popularity of destinations that are not too far away but still outside the eurozone, such as Turkey.
Mr Perrin said that the country "looks set to yet again be a top holiday destination of choice for the British".
