Most Brits "see holidays as essential" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Holidays are now seen as essential by the majority of UK consumers, according to research.

The TravelVision survey, which was commissioned by the British Travel Awards (BTA), questioned some 27,000 people and found that only 9% consider holidays to be a luxury and are willing to sacrifice them if finances are tight.

In last year"s poll, 16% of respondents said they would be willing to forego a break if they needed to save money, Travel Daily reports.

Other findings of the research suggested that booking flights, hotels and other holiday elements together could prove more popular this year, with 10% of people saying they do not feel comfortable arranging separate parts of their trip independently.

Commenting on this trend, BTA chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: "This may be due to the extraordinary circumstances and press coverage of disrupted holidays during 2010 and the need for security when booking a holiday."

Ms Barnes Burton also highlighted the ongoing importance of price, information and security in the decision-making process for people booking holidays.
