Norwegian Air Shuttle has become the first airline to offer high-speed broadband access on flights in Europe.
The carrier has installed antenna on some of its aircraft, meaning that two separate wireless internet networks will be available - one for passengers and one for pilots and cabin crew.
Eleven planes will offer internet access by summer 2011 and 21 will be equipped with the technology by the end of the year.
A total of 40 of Norwegian"s planes will provide inflight Wi-Fi by 2012.
Hans-Petter Aanby, the airline"s director of IT and business development, said: "Norwegian is proud to be the first airline to offer wireless internet access on board flights in Europe. It is satisfying to be able to give our passengers the opportunity to work, read online newspapers, play games or watch online TV while flying with us.
"This is a product that no other airline in Europe is currently offering, which gives us a huge competitive advantage."
Norwegian is gradually phasing out its Boeing 737-300 aircraft and will equip all of its new 737-800s with wireless internet technology.
