Rhodes Attracting More UK Visitors
Rhodes attracting more UK visitors by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Greek island of Rhodes remains a "firm favourite" among British holidaymakers, with a significant increase in the number of people visiting the destination in 2010, new figures reveal.
More than 267,000 Britons visited Rhodes last year - a 7.5% increase from the 248,000 recorded in 2009.
The UK is the top visitor market for the island, along with Germany.
Local tourism authorities have recently focused on giving Rhodes a new image, to move away from its reputation as a party hotspot and leave behind its associations with the Faliraki nightlife scene.
One of the industry"s approaches has been to improve accommodation standards and increase the number of five-star hotels on the island.
Tom Panagos, PR manager for Rhodes Tourism in the UK, said: "When someone talks about Faliraki I feel as if I"m in a time machine. Those days are long over for us and we have worked hard to reposition the island as a quality destination.
"There are more than 100 luxury hotels in Rhodes and this year we welcome the opening of the first Sheraton in Greece and the biggest spa on the island - so we are definitely moving forward."
Flights to Rhodes are available with easyJet and other carriers.
