UNWTO Welcomes Tourism Recovery In Egypt And Tunisia

UNWTO welcomes tourism recovery in Egypt and Tunisia by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has welcomed signs of recovery for the travel industries in Egypt and Tunisia.

Both countries recently saw protests and demonstrations from civilians who wanted to see a change in political leadership.

Now that former presidents Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Zine El Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia have stepped down, the countries and their tourism industries have slowly returned to normal, according to the UNWTO.

Major visitor sites and attractions are open to the public, while airlines have reinstated flights and tour operators have also resumed their services.

Taleb Rifai, the organisation"s secretary-general, welcomed the fact that governments have kept their travel advisories accurate and up-to-date as the situation has evolved in recent weeks.

He added: "Tourism - a highly resilient economic sector - will be among the first sectors to rebound and is therefore well-positioned to support the overall economic recovery.

"UNWTO is working with the relevant authorities to ensure a speedy bounce back and the upcoming travel trade fair, ITB, will be a good opportunity to consolidate these efforts."

Egypt is home to major holiday resorts such as Sharm el Sheikh, which is popular for scuba diving and snorkelling.
