BA sets new world record in aid of Comic Relief by Cheap Flights Booker UK
British Airways has succeeded in its attempt to break the Guinness world record for the "highest stand-up comedy gig in the world", an event that was staged to raise money for Comic Relief.
Stand-up comedians Dara O"Briain, Jack Whitehall and Jon Richardson boarded an Airbus A321 on Saturday (12 March) to give a special show for 45 minutes at an altitude of 35,000ft.
During the "smile high" gig, the performers entertained a crowd of 180 guests and prize winners and raised almost £100,000 for Comic Relief.
Commenting on the unique occasion, Whitehall said: "I was looking forward to today - after all it"s the only gig where people can"t walk out. If you want to heckle you"ll have to press the call button."
BA captain Brian Connolly commented: "It was an honour to captain this very special flight today. I"m proud to be able to say that I"m a Guinness World Records holder, and of course - member of the Smile High Club!"
The event was staged as part of BA"s Flying Start partnership with Comic Relief, which was launched in June last year and has raised more than £700,000 so far.
