Emerging Technologies Can Improve Airport Experience
Emerging technologies "can improve airport experience" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Emerging technologies could play an important part in improving the airport experience for the public over the next ten years, according to a report commissioned by Amadeus, a provider of IT solutions to the travel industry.
Authored by Norm Rose of Travel Tech Consulting, the study shows that problems related to baggage handling, security procedures and flight disruptions are currently the biggest frustrations for air passengers.
The report proposes a number of solutions to these issues, including the use of near-field communication technology in smartphones and tablet computers to enable "one-touch check-in".
Tablet computers could also be used by roaming agents at airports, who could provide information to passengers and aid the check-in process at peak times.
Another innovation is radio frequency identification technology, which is being introduced to create permanent baggage tags and reduce the risk of luggage going astray.
Commenting on his findings, Mr Rose said that self-service and mobility are "key themes of the airport of tomorrow".
Julia Sattel, vice president of airline IT at Amadeus, said: "We see a bright future for those players that are willing to collaborate in order to overcome the challenges presented by airport operations.
"Airlines, airport operators, ground handlers and retailers must work together if the vision presented in this report is to be realised."
