European City Breaks On The Up
European city breaks "on the up" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
City breaks in Europe remained highly popular among travellers last year, according to a report from an organisation comprising various tourist offices and convention bureaux.
European Cities Marketing revealed that the total number of overnight stays in the continent"s leading city tourism destinations increased by 7% year-on-year in 2010.
The figures show that the top five cities in terms of stays in all types of accommodation establishments were London, Paris, Rome, Prague and Barcelona.
However, the highest rates of annual growth were recorded in Munich, Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid and Vienna.
Dieter Hardt-Stremayr, president of European Cities Marketing, said: "Effectively, 2010 was for us a recovery from the global economic recession.
"In this respect, recent political developments in the Middle East region may restrict
visits there and encourage more tourists to take city breaks in Europe."
He went on to say that room rates at hotels and other accommodation establishments are not expected to rise in 2011, but another increase in visitor numbers could boost revenue for the industry.
