Heathrow IT investment "to benefit passengers" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Airport operator BAA has announced investment of hundreds of millions of pounds in IT at London Heathrow with the aim of improving services for passengers catching flights from the hub.
The initiative is designed to enable Heathrow to better respond to crises and share real-time information with customers.
Punctuality is also expected to improve as a result of quicker turnaround of aircraft and better recovery from problems.
One of the central elements of the investment programme is a £100m outsourcing contract with Capgemini to operate the airport"s IT services.
Philip Langsdale, chief information officer at BAA, said: "We understand that passengers want short queues, quick information and a pleasant experience that gets them on their way without stress and with the confidence their bags will come back quickly.
"Our airlines need better, more timely information and improved service quality. Our priority is improving our passengers" experiences and getting the best value we can on behalf of our airline customers."
BAA revealed that its other UK airports - Stansted, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen - will also receive support with new technology tailored to their specific requirements as point-to-point bases.
