Monarch celebrates "world"s greenest airline" award by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Monarch Airlines is celebrating this week after receiving an award at the ITB Berlin travel show recognising its environmental achievements.

The company was named the "world"s greenest airline" following a study carried out by Atmosfair, a carbon offsetting organisation.

Monarch took top place in a list of the ten most eco-friendly air carriers as a result of the efficiency of its aircraft and the high number of passengers it transports on individual flights.

It received the award ahead of other operators such as Air Transat, Air New Zealand Link, Kingfisher Airlines, Air Europa and Sri Lankan Airlines, all of which featured in the top ten.

Using a fleet of 30 aircraft, Monarch operates flights from UK airports including Luton, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester to more than 50 international leisure destinations.

The carrier announced last week that it would be introducing new routes to the Greek island of Corfu and the Turkish holiday resort of Bodrum this summer and adding services to popular destinations such as Tenerife, Paphos and Mallorca.
