New marina opening in Rhodes by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The range of tourist experiences on offer on the Greek island of Rhodes will be extended this summer with the opening of a new marina.

Representing an investment of €100 million (£88 million), the complex is scheduled to open in June and will become fully operational in 2012.

It will serve as a "five-star" visitor attraction, according to the local tourist board, with onshore facilities including shops, restaurants, cafes, green areas, a landscaped promenade along the main pier and a spa.

The marina will have the capacity to accommodate more than 400 ships, providing relief for the island"s existing yacht harbour, which is usually crowded with local and charter vessels.

Sea craft alone are expected to bring some 20,000 people to the location every season.

A number of developments are currently underway to improve Rhodes" visitor infrastructure, including a ring road connecting the marina to the international airport.

Discussions are taking place regarding a shopping centre and five-star hotel in the island"s main town.
