UNWTO Looks Forward To Decade Of Travel And Tourism
UNWTO looks forward to "decade of travel and tourism" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The next ten years will be "the decade of travel and tourism", according to an influential industry group.
Speaking at the ITB trade show in Berlin this week, UN World Tourism Organisation secretary-general Taleb Rifai pointed out that the first decade of the 21st century was one of "extraordinary growth".
However, the period was also defined by "severe shocks" such as the 9/11 attacks on the US in 2001 and the recent economic crisis.
"Now - with recovery underway and international tourist arrivals up by 7% in 2010 - is the time to look forward and ask what the next ten years hold for our sector," said Mr Rifai.
He went on to say that tourism can be a leader in strong and sustainable growth over the coming years and serve as "one of the most effective agents of development".
The UNWTO recently welcomed signs of recovery in the travel industries in Egypt and Tunisia, with airlines resuming flights and all major sites and attractions now open to visitors.
