Unique Fossil Centre Opens In South Africa
"Unique" fossil centre opens in South Africa by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Cape Town Routes Unlimited has welcomed the launch of a multi-purpose fossil information and interpretation centre for the visually and hearing impaired in South Africa"s Western Cape province.
The promotional agency said the complex, which is housed at the Institute for the Blind in the town of Worcester, is "set to change the face of tourism" in the region.
It comprises four separate attractions: the Eddie van Dijk Exhibition Fossil Centre, the George van Heerden fossil trail, the Blindiana Museum and a theatre for the visually impaired called the Blind Spot.
Calvyn Gilfellan, chief executive of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, said the site is unique in that it is exclusively designed and organised to cater for people with visual, hearing and other impairments.
"With most other tourism developments, the disabled are accommodated on the terms of the able-bodied (sometimes as an after-thought). With this project, they are central but without excluding the able-bodied," he added.
"This is a critical philosophical point of departure that will assist in the understanding, reshaping and reinventing of the tourism product and experience in the Western Cape and indeed the world."
International travellers interested in exploring the Western Cape can begin their journey by taking flights to Cape Town, the provincial capital.
