Eastern European capitals "cheapest for city breaks" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Britons planning a cheap city break in Europe this year should head east, according to new research by Post Office Travel Money.

The report reveals that Riga, Prague and Budapest are the most affordable of 19 cities surveyed based on a selection of tourist products and services, with Tallinn and Warsaw completing the top five.

A trip to the Latvian capital of Riga is less than half the price of breaks in popular destinations such as Paris, Amsterdam and New York, according to the study.

It was also revealed that travellers can benefit from savings in Dublin this year, with prices having fallen over the past year and attractions such as the National Museum and National Gallery offering free entry.

Over half of the cities surveyed are cheaper than last year for Britons, owing to the recent strengthening of the pound.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: "These price falls are good news for people planning city breaks this spring.

"However, wide variations in costs between competing cities mean that tourists really

do need to do their homework before booking."
