Florida festival to celebrate Ernest Hemingway by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers planning a trip to Key West during summer holidays in Florida this year might have the opportunity to visit a festival celebrating the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer Ernest Hemingway.
The island in the Florida Keys will host the 2011 Hemingway Days festival from 19 to 24 July.
A series of events paying tribute to the great author and his life will come to Key West, including a three-day marlin fishing competition celebrating his love for the sport.
Another highlight for visitors to look out for is the Papa Hemingway look-alike competition, which sees stocky men with impressive white beards gathering at Sloppy Joe"s bar to compete for the top prize.
There will also be readings, book signings by noted authors and an exhibition of rare memorabilia associated with the creator of such works as For Whom the Bell Tolls and A Farewell to Arms.
Hemingway and his then-wife Pauline lived in Key West in the 1930s, in a house on Whitehead Street which is now the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum.
