Minneapolis ranked among best summer trips by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The tourist board representing the US city of Minneapolis is celebrating the destination"s appearance on a list of the ten best summer trips for 2011.

National Geographic Traveler magazine recommended the location for its "pedestrian-and-pedal-friendly downtown and welcoming Midwestern vibe", which "make it easy for first-time visitors to quickly feel at home".

Long winters occasionally continuing until April mean that local people make the most of the summer months in Minneapolis, with a range of cultural festivals and events taking place from June to August.

The magazine recommends the Minneapolis Aquatennial, which will run from 16 to 24 July 2011.

Visitors can also head to Target Field to watch some baseball, hire a bike from a Nice Ride Minnesota kiosk or try some of the aquatic activities on offer on the city"s 22 lakes and the Mississippi river.

Minneapolis was named the fourth best summer trip for 2011 by National Geographic Traveler, behind Muskoka Cottage Country in Ottawa, Canada; Patagonia, Argentina; and the San Juan Islands, Washington.

Alaska"s Glacier Bay National Park, the Welsh capital of Cardiff and Stockholm in Sweden also featured in the top ten.
