United And Continental Taking Part In Earth Day

United and Continental taking part in Earth Day by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Continental and United Airlines will be taking part in the Earth Day 2011 initiative by encouraging customers to make use of mobile boarding facilities.

For every passenger who checks in for one of the airline"s flights using a mobile phone or handheld device on 22 April, the companies will donate $1 (62p) to their non-profit partner Conservation International.

Every time a traveller uses the Continental mobile application on an iPhone or Android device, $2 will be contributed to the organisation to support its Protect an Acre programme, which is working to tackle tropical deforestation.

Toby Enqvist, United Airlines" vice president of environmental affairs and security, said: "At the new United, we are taking responsible actions to reduce our impact on the environment.

"Using a mobile boarding pass is a tangible way our customers can join us in our commitment to environmental and social responsibility."

Justin Ward of Conservation International said the organisation "greatly appreciates" the commitment from Continental and United Airlines.

More than 10m travellers have used mobile devices to check in for the carriers" flights since the facility was introduced in 2007.
