Festival Season Starting In Iceland

Festival season starting in Iceland by Cheap Flights Booker UK

There will be some diverse experiences on offer to travellers visiting Iceland over the coming months, with a range of events set to take place throughout the country.

This month sees the launch of the 2011 Reykjavik Arts Festival, which will begin on 20 May and continue until 5 June.

Described by the Icelandic Tourist Board as the "oldest and most respected" arts festival in the country, the event celebrates local and international culture in various fields.

Highlights of the 2011 programme include performances by the likes of Barbara Bonney and Jonas Kaufmann at the new Harpa Concert Hall and a Beijing Dance Theatre show at the National Theatre.

The importance of Iceland"s waters in terms of the country"s history and culture will be marked by the Festival of the Sea on 4 and 5 June, with rowing competitions, parades, food fairs, regattas and much more on offer.

Visitors will also be treated to feasts, games and plenty of fun at the Viking Festival (16-20 June), while the Summer Solstice Festival (21 June) will feature parties and bonfires paying tribute to the midnight sun on the longest day of the year.
