Lonely Planet: Madagascar A Safe And Cheap Destination
Lonely Planet: Madagascar "a safe and cheap destination" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers heading to Madagascar will find that the country is safe, affordable and full of unique attractions, according to Lonely Planet author David Andrew.
Mr Andrew pointed out that, as a result of the animated films of the same name, most mentions of Madagascar are greeted with jokes about scheming penguins and dancing lemurs.
He stressed that people who are willing to discover the real country will find that it offers some unusual, exotic experiences.
"For most Brits this enormous island off the coast of Africa is still the stuff of legend: remote, stocked with bizarre plants and animals and with unpronounceable place names - even locals refer to Antananarivo, the capital, as "Tana"," said Mr Andrew.
"But Madagascar … is cheap and safe to visit, and more English people are doing so each year."
Offering some advice for travellers heading to the island, the Lonely Planet author said local people will appreciate efforts to communicate in French, even though they have their own language.
He also revealed that politeness "is a byword among the Malagasy".
